The Muzzle Loaders Associations International Confederation (MLAIC) was founded in 1971. In pursuing its objectives, activities, and functions, the MLAIC observes the principle that muzzle-loading shooting should be practiced, administered, and promoted on a non-discriminatory, non-political, not-for-profit, and democratic basis.

Against this backdrop, the MLAIC promotes interest in historical muzzle-loading firearms by encouraging competition with these arms in their original, unaltered state, while also fostering research into the history of such firearms and their historical use.

The MLAIC is responsible not only for promoting the sport at both global and regional levels through World and Zone Championships, but also for maintaining and enforcing the regulatory framework that ensures the sport can be practiced safely and within a properly governed environment.
